Another Monday is upon us and another month is over. I don’t think I’ll ever stop exclaiming my surprise that another month has flown by. I’m hoping April brings warmer weather because I am starting to feel a bit stir crazy. When I can come home from work and plop myself in the hammock in the backyard, I’ll be a happy gal. I recently flipped (digitally, of course) through the Target Spring Home Style Catalog and loved everything in it. I’m not always impressed with Target’s quality, but sometimes, they really surprise me. I’ve decided to throw some of my favorites together (not all because literally I would just be posting the whole catalog) and I’m noticing a trend: neutrals.

Chris and I are just about to approach our first home anniversary. It has been so awesome to move into a proper three-bedroom home vs our small rentals. We quickly ran out of stuff to fill our space, which was a nice change. For the most part, we have completely settled in to our home and have set up every room to some degree. The most neglected room, though, is our home office. I’m still trying to figure out what function this space will have and how I want it to look because, as usual, I’m fighting my feminine room dreams and trying to embrace a more masculine look. I threw together a home office inspiration mood board to really figure out what I am drawn to so I can finally finish the room.

I love home decorating. Even before we had the keys to our home, I was already planning and dreaming about what each room would look like. We haven’t purchased any furniture since buying our home, so I knew I would be working with what we had already. Moving in, we threw stuff into the rooms and even though I was happy with the layout, I hated the way our bedroom looked and felt. I recently spent some time and effort in making it a more enjoyable space to be in but wanted to wait until it was perfect before I did a master bedroom tour. I finally decided, even though it’s not “finished”, I wanted to go ahead and share it.

Happy Monday, everyone! If you read my blog, you know that I am a huge fan of West Elm. I used to browse the site and store and never purchase anything because everything is so expensive, but Chris and I have started investing in pieces here and there for our home. As far as home stores go, I love how much of a selection West Elm has and how much they incorporate local items in their stores. I started adding things to my wish list and decided to just throw together a collection of my West Elm picks in case anyone else needed to do some home decor shopping. When I first stepped into my house, I immediately fell in love with the hardwood floors and the spacious living room. The walls were a green-grey and showcased the beautiful built-ins and fireplace, but the finish was glossy and poorly done. I get teased a lot but whenever I am thinking about painting a room, I always go with white. I will settle for grey if there’s going to be a fight but for our living room, I envisioned all white walls with color inserted with furniture and accessories. One of the first things we did to our home is paint the living room walls all white (victory!). After we had the floors refinished, I was even happier with my decision to paint the walls white since our floors are now so dark and the room needed some brightening. We started to fill our room with our furniture and over the last 6 months, we have added a bit more to make it more adult and ‘us’ but we are still far from complete. I thought it would be nice to document the evolution of our first home with a series that I am kicking off with a living room tour. Continue reading “Living Room Tour”
I feel like I’ve been waiting forever to buy a house. After renting for over three years, I’m over it. Last summer I started looking at houses online in an attempt to prepare myself for what I should expect to be able to afford. It wasn’t until late this fall that I actually started to get ready for the real house hunt. We got pre-approved and started the search. I’m looking forward to owning and making a place my own. When you rent, you often find things that you don’t like and you have to learn to live with it. With ownership, you can change the things you don’t like (albeit it’s going to cost you). It’s taken me way longer than I had anticipated but I finally have started putting together my dressing/makeup room (which I will show off in a future post). It still has a long way to go but it’s the perfect room for me to do my makeup in the morning. I swapped out my previous thrifted vanity for a Pottery Barn desk, which I purchased at the outlet six years ago, and filled up two out of the three drawers with makeup. I like to think that I have a pretty normal amount of makeup. I have watched several makeup collection videos on YouTube and I certainly don’t even compare to them, though I might have more than the average girl. I find that I wear mostly the same stuff everyday but do like to have some variety, to mix it up depending on the situation. I do like to make sure that my makeup storage is clean and organized. I’m surprised how much my home decor tastes have changed. I would say I started off being into a more traditional look with a touch of country. I’ve always liked bright and happy and eclectic rooms have always caught my eye. At our current house, the style of the room set the tone for how I decorate each room. It’s a bit of a mishmash right now since we have just bought pieces along the way over the last 3 years we’ve lived together. Our living room is where we spend most of our time and it’s a space that I’ve wanted to make comfortable and stylish while still showcasing the things we love. It’s been slowly transforming into a more adult and modern space and I’ve been browsing Pinterest for inspiration to make it even more “us”. Continue reading “Living Room Inspiration: Updated”
Since Chris and I have gotten married, I’ve been putting a lot of time and effort into making our house an adult space. We’ve bought a new couch, buffet/hutch, bar cart, and guest bed. We’ve been lucky to inherit a few pieces from family but there are still some things I’m not 100% happy with. The living room is the room we spend the most time in and the room people see every time they come over so I want it to be comfortable and “us”. In the next several months, I would like to replace the TV stand and coffee table because right now they don’t quite fit with our tastes and look like college pieces. Slowly our house is coming together but one of the hardest things has been combining both of our tastes into one space. Chris likes more modern and industrial, while I prefer softer feminine and traditional decor. When I go out shopping for decor items, I try to picture how each thing would fit in our current space and whether or not it’s just my taste or our taste. Though I still plan on browsing Craigslist and garage sales, these are my top choices in store: Continue reading “Coffee Tables”
I’ve said before that I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions but I still like to have a little list of things I want to do or do better in the new year. This year, I thought it would be fun to learn how to mix a few drinks so I hit the liquor store and picked up some essentials. I’ve also accumulated quite a collection of drink recipes on my Pinterest board. I spent a lot of time browsing bar carts online and found some really great ones (like this, this, and this) but finally decided on the Target Threshold Bar Cart because it was the most affordable. I was pleasantly surprised that it’s as sturdy as it is and it holds almost everything bar related that I have, including a few bottles of wine. My car isn’t yet complete but I wanted to show you what I came up with so far:
