Smoothie It Up

In an attempt to eat better, my fiance and I decided to start making smoothies a few days a week for breakfast. I picked up some necessary ingredients from Trader Joe’s and Giant Eagle and looked up some recipe ideas on Pinterest. Here are some of the ingredients (plus additional healthy food items) that I put into most of my smoothies:

  • almonds
  • flax seed
  • old fashioned oats
  • frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, pineapple)
  • bananas
  • vanilla yogurt
  • greek yogurt
  • almond milk
  • orange juice
  • honey
  • spinach

Here are some of my favorite recipes:

Pineapple-Berry

  • 1 banana
  • 2 cups spinach
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1/4 cup pineapple
  • 1/4 cup raspberries
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 2 tbsp flax seed

Strawberry-Banana Oat Smoothie

  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup almonds
  • 1 cup yogurt (or greek yogurt)

Banana-Oat Smoothie

  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup milk (or almond milk)
  • 1/2 cup yogurt (or greek yogurt)
