As far as weekends go, this was a good one. As per usual, Chris and I spent quality time together shopping and working in the yard. We went a little outside of our normal shopping area and headed to Polaris. I was good and only picked up a few items from Sephora and even walked into Madewell and walked out empty handed (gasp!). We spent the rest of the afternoon trying to tame our wild backyard. The two summers we have lived here, we’ve had tomato plants growing in our back beds and it quickly turns into a jungle. This year we are trying to keep it under control but I feel like I’m out of my element (cue Big Lebowski quotes). Unfortunately, I got a touch of poison ivy on my leg that I’m currently using all my willpower not to scratch. Sunday we met our friends, TJ + Dana, for breakfast and then headed to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (photos to come soon if you’re interested). The weather was absolutely perfect and it wasn’t too crazy busy. My outfit Saturday was one of my favorites in a long time and actually features something that wasn’t purchased at Madewell (gasp again!): a chambray dress.
This dress! I saw it at Tigertree, one of my favorite local stores, a couple weeks ago when Chris and I were shopping in the Short North. I had thought about trying it on but was worried it would be too short on me, as a lot of dresses often are. A few days later, I saw a photo online of someone wearing this dress from Madewell and I thought “I have to have that”. I was so sad to see that my size was sold out but then I remembered the dress at Tigertree, which is so similar. I decided to check to see if they had it online and they did! Even though I could have just driven 10 minutes to the Short North, I decided to just order it online and right in time for the weekend, it came!
My favorite thing about this chambray dress from Thread & Supply is the sleeves. I love how they are just a little longer than your average short sleeve and the size of the cuff. The fabric is light and soft and the dress has pockets! There is nothing better than a dress with pockets. The length actually isn’t too bad on me and I felt extremely comfortable walking around in it all afternoon, even though I was showing a touch more leg than usual. The hidden buttons are also a nice touch.
The bandana is from Madewell and also came in the mail just in time for the weekend. It took a while for me to get on with the bandana trend but I definitely think there is a time and a place for it. The pop of red was exactly what this outfit needed and inspired me to pair it with a nice matte red lip (NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella). I can’t help but think of Rosie the Riveter when I look at this picture.
The bag is my trusty Madewell Transport Tote. I’ve had this bag for over a year and plan on keeping it forever. It’s not the best for keeping all of your belongings organized but I love how much I can shove into it when I need to. I have seen that Madewell makes cross-body versions of this tote and I am very tempted.
I topped the outfit off with my favorite tennis shoes, pink New Balances that I got for Christmas this past year. They are so comfortable and go with everything (IMHO). I wore them almost everyday in Copenhagen. In fall I live in boots, in summer I live in tennis shoes. This chambray dress really does go with everything, though, and I plan on trying it on with different shoes.
Max the pup was desperate for love when I was taking these photos so I couldn’t resist including some of the photos we took. He is just the best pup there is and he and I spend a lot of time together. He is the reason my clothes are always covered in dog hair but I don’t mind. He’s worth it!
I love a good piece that I can just throw on and this chambray dress seems like one that I can dress up or down. As someone who doesn’t love to wear summer clothes, dresses are the exception. Not only do they help me stay cool in the hot summer heat, but they are so dang comfortable! I have a feeling this is going to be an outfit that I’m going to wear on repeat.
