I have really come to love maxi dresses. As a relatively tall person, I was worried that maxi dresses would just make me appear even taller than I already am. I usually have trouble finding a maxi dress that will hit the ground but my first maxi dress, a striped tank dress from The Limited, I was really excited that it was long enough and fit my frame. Since then, I have now purchased four maxi dresses from Old Navy, Gap, and ModCloth. I think a maxi dress is perfect for everyday wear and a formal event. Maxi dresses are great because they provide a large canvas for fun patterns and/or bold colors. I’m typically drawn to tank or short sleeve styles with fun prints. Stripes tend to be my favorite but I love that solid dresses allow the addition of accessories to dress up the look. Though I think maxi dresses look awesome on tall gals, I think more petite figures can pull them off too if they find the right fit. I think a dress should touch the ground when you’re wearing shoes or hit slightly above mid ankle, which allows you to show off your shoes. I always look for a cinched waist, which adds more structure to the dress and makes it look more put together. If you can find the perfect maxi dress, you’ll have an outfit that is as comfortable as sweats but looks 100 times better!
Here are some maxi dresses that I’m really loving right now:
