Fall Footwear. Two of my favorite things. I can’t get enough of them. As soon as that first fall chill hits the air, I break out my beloved collection of boots. Over the last year or so, I have branched out so my footwear collection includes a few pairs that I love that aren’t boots. I am especially excited about this fall because I am able to wear my favorite shoes to work so I’ll get even more use out of them.
In 2013 and 2014, I created a list of my favorite fall boots and booties and I thought it was time for a less exclusive update. Boots and fall go together like peanut butter and jelly but sometimes it’s OK to mix things up, especially with footwear. Unless you are spending lots of time outside in the cold, which you probably aren’t, tennis shoes and mules are just fine for autumn. I created a list or some of my favorite fall footwear as well as a few new pairs that I wouldn’t mind picking up before autumn hits.
What I Own
I have always loved boots and over the years I have accumulated quite a few pairs that I absolutely love. To start with my tall boots: my Steve Maddens. I have had my tried and true Steve Madden riding boots for about six years and though they aren’t my highest quality pair of boots, they are one of my favorites. Similar to my Steve Maddens and another pair of boots I love are my Frye Paige Tall Riding Boots. I’ve had these for about four years and they have worn well. I love the softness of the leather and the dark brown goes with absolutely everything.
As for my short boots, I have two pairs. First, my Frye Jillian Chelsea Boots (similar to the Vagabond pair). I got these as a birthday gift a couple years ago and have worn them every autumn since. They are nice and tight around the ankles, which I like but the elasticity makes them easy to put on and take off. Second, I have my Frye (are you noticing a trend here) Cara Short. These are new so this will be my first autumn with them. The suede is soft and the grey makes them stand out from my shoe collection. I love that these are the perfect booties to wear with leggings (like I did here).
To wrap up my favorite fall footwear that I own, I have a pair of New Balance sneakers, loafers, and my super unique vegan leather flats. I got my pink New Balance 696s this past Christmas and they might just be my favorite pair of shoes (similar to these awesome mustard sneakers). They are super comfortable and despite the pink, they go with everything. I just know I’ll be wearing them this autumn with jeans and leggings. My lesser worn loafers are not only a great work shoe, but are also very autumnal. Pair with jeans and you’re golden. Finally, the Barrow Flat that I picked up from Moorea Seal will also be great for fall. The blush pink feels a bit autumnal to me and since they are a cross between a flat and a boot, they will be perfect to transition into autumn. If you are intimidated by the pink, they do come in other colors.
What I Want
I definitely do not need to pick up more shoes for fall, but I can’t help but look. The first is a pair of shoes I owned back in the day and want to repurchase – Converse Chuck Taylors. The Low Tops go with everything and are a wardrobe staple. I have been dragging my feet (pun intended) and just need to pick a pair up. Mule sliders are all over the place these days and I’m starting to warm up to them. I am not a huge fan of showing my toes but this pair has a nice color and texture to them, so I’ll let it slide. The final pair of shoes that I’m thinking about are Chris’s fault. Being married to Dapper in Columbus might just mean that I need a pair of Wolverines, like the 1000 Mile Boots. They are a classic style that I am sure I could wear for years to come.
I know I said I am embracing summer this year and trying to enjoy the hot summer heat while it’s here, but I can’t help but be excited about the prospect of busting out my flannels and fall footwear. My boots have been super neglected since winter and I will feel so much more comfortable with my clothes when I have a pair on my feet.
