Can you believe that we are halfway through 2018? So much has changed in my life since January 1 but I am proud to say I have (somewhat) stuck to my new year’s goals. I haven’t updated this blog in a while so I figured it was a good opportunity to review my goals thus far and update anyone who visits my corner of the internet from time to time.
Travel Somewhere New
When I originally wrote this goal, I had a mini trip to New Orleans lined up so I knew I would be able to check this one off the list. My visit to New Orleans was brief but it was a really cool opportunity to visit a unique city and the only place in the south (other than Florida) where I have spent time. I also had mentioned that maybe I would cross NYC off the list and we did! Chris and I took our babymoon earlier this month to New York City and I am so glad we did it when we did. New York is huge, fast paced, and not really a place I can see visiting with a small child. It was a bit difficult for me to accept that I couldn’t do everything I wanted in 5 days and I hope someday to revisit (maybe in the autumn or winter).
Less Screen Time
This is a still a struggle but thus far, I believe I have spent considerably less time on my phone. I participate on social media far less than I did this time last year, and have tried to fill my time with more things that don’t require sitting in front of a screen. I do have to admit that in my pregnancy fatigue, I love to lie on the couch, which leads to more TV. Though, recently, I’ve started to read more (see below) and try to learn something new (also see below), which cuts into TV time more. However, I am sure when I have a tiny human around, all I will really have time for is caring for baby and MAYBE glimpses of TV, Pinterest, and/or reading (let’s hope for the latter).
Ah, reading. I started strong going into the new year but then really fell off the wagon. I did jump into Modern Romance, which I enjoyed but wasn’t really as entertaining as I had hoped. After finishing that in February, I didn’t really pick anything up for a while until I decided to start Harry Potter again (for like the 15th time, no exaggeration). It took my far too long to get through but I have been so distracted with baby books (those count as reading too, right)? I picked up Meaty by Samantha Irby in NYC and I’m loving it so far. I’m about finished, and plan to dive into Chamber or Secrets or the Prime Kindle book I just downloaded. We shall see if I can cram a few more books in before baby. Cross your fingers!
Learn Something New
This one has gone pretty well. I have stuck to my Duolingo Danish lessons and though I don’t think I will have any luck speaking Danish with anyone, I am confident in my abilities to read it. I dream of returning to Denmark someday and hopefully, this will stick with me until then. Until then, it’s still a fun side hobby. Other than that, my other new skill I hope to develop is the ukulele. I have wanted to learn to play the ukulele for years and one day recently, I decided it was time. Chris and I made a somewhat spontaneous trip to Guitar Center one day during lunch and I walked out a proud owner of a Cordoba ukulele. I’m slowly breaking my fingers back in but am so excited to get into a musical instrument again. I hope to keep this one up after baby’s arrival.
While I’m here, a little pregnancy update. I am currently wrapping up my 25th week and I have to say, I feel pretty great. The nausea I held onto into my second trimester is gone and other than headaches here and there (which I am used to), I don’t have much to complain about. I feel like I was late to the emotional mess train but have just started to feel a bit out of control hormonally but it’s nothing I can’t handle. My stomach is feeling more and more stretched every day but with the presence of baby kicks that I feel every day now, I couldn’t be happier. So far, baby seems to be growing on track and the love that Chris and I have for her already is unreal. I have my glucose test coming up and then another ultrasound, which I cannot wait for (ultrasound, not the sugary drink). Hopefully, I will continue to have smooth sailing. Thanks for following along on my latest life journey. I hope to share more down the road!
