August Goals

Hello. How are you? It’s been a while. I don’t know why I haven’t posted in over two weeks but I have had this draft sitting in my account for quite some time now so I suppose it’s time to actually post my August goals. Better late than never, right?! August is one of those month’s where it’s still hot and feels like summer but the nearness of autumn is exciting. I’m a little disappointed in myself that there was so much I wanted to accomplish with the house this summer that I didn’t get to and when the weather turns cool, I won’t want to. But, such is life. All the things that I left undone don’t really matter much in the scheme of things. Life has still felt full and wonderful and for that I am grateful.

My goals for August are, as usual, a continuation of the last month with a few additions. My main focus is still the house but I also want have some personal goals that I hope to accomplish before the 31st.

  1. Spend less time on my phone. The first goal is partially to blame for my silence online. I spend a bit of my time reading tech news and have come across a couple articles that talk about the power technology holds over our lives. Social media is part of my job and I love it! I do, however, not like how much time I spend staring at my phone when I should be doing other things. I do believe the world has changed since I was a kid and it’s pretty normal and acceptable to spend a significant amount of time online but I want it to be when I actually want to and not when my phone makes me think I want to. The change I have made that has helped me with this the most is turning off all my notifications on my phone. It sounds simple but I cannot tell you how much this has helped me to not obsessively check my phone all day everyday. If you want to better control how much time you spend scrolling through your phone, I highly, highly recommend turning off your notifications.
  2. Get serious about photography. This goal is a long time coming. I mentioned in my post about the backyard wedding I photographed that I want to get more serious about photography as a business. I do not plan on ever transitioning to photography full time but since I do enjoy it so much, I want to see where I can take it. I know I will never improve if I don’t take pictures, so I hope to challenge myself more this autumn before the winter cold traps us inside. I might be shooting another wedding soon and I want to come up with a better workflow that will allow me to process photos quicker (ex: filters, presets, etc).
  3. Set up the office. In my quest to make my house home, I have my eyes set on our home office. We recently picked up a desktop computer so this has lit a fire under my butt to get the office set up. It needs to double as an in-home studio but I still want it to be a room that I enjoy spending time in. I definitely do not think it will be complete by the end of the month but I want to start to figure out the layout that will best work for us. I envision a small couch, neutral rug, and maybe even a small coffee table for lounging. If you are interested in my home inspiration, check out my Pinterest.

Since we are already halfway through the month, I hope my August goals aren’t too lofty. I’ve already made steps in the right direction for all of them  so I’m not too discouraged yet. August isn’t particularly busy but I am finding it difficult to motivate myself lately so wish me luck! Have a fantastic week, everyone!

  1. Well defined and attainable goals.

    1. Thanks! I hope so! I tend to be someone who doesn’t accomplish something until like six months late.
