October Goals

October is my favorite month. Not only is it my birthday month, but it brings fall and Halloween with it. The trees start to change but it’s not too cold outside yet, which means sweater weather, my favorite. Weekend activities usually include hiking, apple picking, trips to Yellow Springs, and lots of fall photography (you know, all those things that make for a good Instagram photo). Despite the warmer-than-average weather right now, I vow to enjoy October beginning to end.

One good thing that came out of my September Goals is that I am reading more. I wrapped up one book before beginning The Handmaid’s Tale. I am sure I will finish it this weekend and I have Gunslinger ready to pick up when I finish. I’ve always loved reading and it feels good to get back into it. If you have any book recommendations, please let me know!

I feel like I need to get ahead of winter with my October goals. It’s never too late to start taking care of yourself and I hope to take time in October to start making better choices.

  1. Better meal planning. Chris and I have been doing Blue Apron for quite some time now and it has been amazing. We eat better, enjoy quality time together, and have become better cooks. We’ve been doing 3 meals/week, which is great, but I would like to start alternating weeks and cooking in between. I like cooking but the prep that is involved has really stopped me over the last few years. I have a difficult time motivating myself after work and even when I do start on a meal, I realize I am missing an ingredient and Chris has to head to the store. It’s really frustrating and definitely prevents me from cooking more. I would like to become better at planning out my meals on a weekly basis for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I’ve fallen off the breakfast bandwagon and would like to get back on it. By making sure I have an idea of what I want to eat each week and what ingredients I will need, I will give myself the best chance at accomplishing this goal.
  2. Begin exercising. This one scares me. I’ve never been a super active person but there have been several moments of my life where I exercised on a regular basis. Over the last few years this hasn’t been true. The biggest excuse I can give is time. My time at home is very valuable to me and driving 15 minutes to a gym does not sound appealing to me. Sure, I could work out at home, but I have found that I can never stay consistent that way. Chris and I have talked about joining the JCC, which would be a win win for me. It’s close to home (though, not walking distance), has group classes (which I NEED) and an indoor pool. I am afraid that we will pay for a membership and not go, but the older I get, the more I realize that this is the body I have and it deserves to be taken care of.
  3. Organize Spare Room. This is an easy one that I know I can accomplish this month no problem. The spare bedroom is our house is not a total wreck, but I have never really taken the time to truly set it up. Other than a couple pieces of furniture, it’s a collection of misfits. The bedding is old Target bedding from my college years, the side tables are from my old bedroom at home, and the rug form Ikea from about 8 years ago. We don’t spend a lot of time in it but I think with a little bit of TLC, it could mesh better with out style and our home.

I can’t believe that we are already a month into October and in a month we will be getting sooooo close to the holiday season. I do not wish fall away but I hope to make the best of the rest of the year.

Just like that, cool autumn temps and bright foliage has finally arrived in central Ohio.
